USB PC auto reset and IO unit A Personal Computer based project providing a PC slot reset capability should the PC system crash (stop responding), a high speed RS485 port and an IO expansion interface for connection to a maximum of 8 external IO modules. A single USB connection provides two serial ports, one used to communicate with the watchdog/IO interface and the other for the high speed RS485 interface. The on-board flash microcontroller decodes PC derived commands and actions resets, timer settings and IO module communication. IO module provides 8 input lines (0-30V capable) and 8 output lines (TTL or contact configurable) and communicates with the PC card using RS485. A maximum of 8 modules can be daisy-chained to provide 64 inputs and 64 outputs. Manufactured on a double-sided PCB the product utilizes both surface mount and conventional technologies.
